During the weekend after Easter we had the wonderful opportunity to go and visit some dear friends in Nashville, Tennessee. We met John in Swaziland during Beat the Drum in 2004.
John and his wife, Debbie, live in Murfreesboro with their pet pig, dog, chickens and
donkey. (Unfortunately their lama died just before we went to see them.) They have the nicest restaurant where you get good food and a warm, friendly atmosphere. It is country cooking at its best! (Oh, but we did eat some frog legs. Not part of country cooking, I think.)
So we arrived there on Friday night and then their son made us dinner. We had fish, steak, salads, sweet cornbread and desert. It was sooooo good. Saturday morning John took us to downtown Nashville, the country music capitol. It was fun to see where everything started and where Elvis Presley recorded his first albums. After this we went to the Jack Daniels Distillery. This was so cool! No, we are not whiskey drinkers, but it was amazing to hear this success story. Jack Daniels was only 13 years old when he took over this business and he did a great job! If we would have been whiskey drinkers, we would have felt obligated to drink only Jack Daniels.
Saturday night and Sunday lunch we ate at the famous Millers Grocery, their restaurant. We really enjoyed the food. it was one of the best meals we had in the States. The atmosphere was casual and warm and you could experience that people were enjoying themselves. Something that really stood out to us was the fact that they do not sell any alcohol in their restaurant. We believe that people support them for this desicion, because the place was always packed.
We had an awsesome weekend and we enjoyed every moment visiting our friends.
John and Debbie, thank you for this weekend and thank you for blessing us.
