Hallo friends!
Yet again this blog update is way past its deadline. Camp was almost 3 weekends ago and it was great! The children had so much fun and the discipleship team did an awesome job. There were so much laughing, singing, dancing, eating and playing involved!
Camp was at a real house, so different than the previous camps. A tent was also put up in the garden as a place to meet. The children enjoyed every moment of it. They were amazed when they stop at the house on Friday after being picked up from their care points. It was so good for them to have a break from their home situations and learn about God in a fun and safe environment. (And of course they LOVED the showers!)
On Friday the team revised lessons done from the previous couple of weeks with the children and the children were rewarded with fun prizes. On Saturday they had a care point choir and drama competition. The choir competition was amazing. Their singing is amazing and it gave me goose bumps. The dramas were hilarious! They have been practicing at their care points, so they came prepared. They had to act out the “prodigal son’. So funny! There was one boy who played the father and every time he talked, he used this rough, manly, deep voice. We were cracking up! But a lot of their culture and the way they are being raised were reflected by their dramas. The way the ‘father’ talked to his ‘wife’; the fact that all the servant roles were played by girls; just little things like this.
Something more on the spiritual side: Saturday evening Katie (AIM staff member here) had the children write down (or draw) their burdens on a piece of paper. They then tore it up and danced on it, stomping it. They really enjoyed this.
Every time Zodwa (one of the discipleship team members) shouted, “He is a GG” the children shouted back, “He is a GREAT GOD!” I hope they took this back with them to their houses. I hope that they remember and believe He is a GREAT GOD; a God who is greater than their burdens, greater than their sin, and greater than their situations.
