38 years, 6 months, 5 nights and 6 WR’s

38 years …

Yesterday we celebrated my amazing husband’s 38th birthday! We stayed home for dinner and I cooked him a nice meal. Tonight we will have a couple of friends over to have a braai and to celebrate some more.

6 months …

Clara was 6 months old yesterday. She is such a joy and we are enjoying parenthood. She continues to amaze us daily. She is loved by all and she is so easy going.

5 nights …

… before our first summer team arrives in Swaziland. This will officially be the start of a crazy summer for all of us. So thankful for all the help we have this summer!

6 WR’s

We have 6 AIM World Racers in the country and they helped out last week with profile updates at a couple of the carepoints. It was such a big help to have them. Clara and I got to spend some time with them at the carepoints. They gave me some food for thought; so here goes:

Whenever we hear stories from the World Race, or read their blogs, it is all about the miracles, the ‘wow’ and the amazing stuff that they have seen. So I felt kind of bad having them do plain old boring profile updates! Taking pictures of the kids, coloring and playing with the kids; that kind of thing. Who wants to do the boring? The ordinary? This really made me think!

For me, most of the time missionary life is all about the ordinary! I still have to wash Clara’s bottles every day, I still have to cook, clean house, do the laundry … do tons of admin work … blablabla. I don’t get to see amazing miracles of people getting healed or raised from the dead. Most of the times we don’t even get to see the ‘fruit of our labor’. But this doesn’t mean we DON’T see God working around us. God is doing amazing things here in Swaziland and we praise Him that we can be part of it. He provides in amazing ways …. staff, vehicles, school fees, school shoes and uniforms for the kids ….. and lots more!

My point? I have to find my joy in God in the daily life! I believe we are where God wants us to be! And He IS busy working around us and changing lives!

PS Seems like the World racers are having a great time here in Swaziland! They feel like they are part of a bigger picture! So cool!

  1. Hi baby girl!!!

There is nothing ordinary about what you do! You are the miracle!!! You are the answer to sooooo many prayers of the Swazi people!!! Mrs Gerber you are amaZing in every area of your life !!!! I a’m soo proud of you!

    I miss you ,(

  2. Kriek and Jumbo,

Thanks for taking care of the racers. That’s our T squad. We’ve come to love them.

Great picture of Jumbo and Clara!

  3. My friends, just like others in your circle of friends, we love you big time. We pray for you and your health and continued protection.
You are both an inspiration to all with whom you come into contact.
May God continue to bless you in every which way.

  4. Far, far from ordinary! While your position may have changed since the birth of Clara, your role has not. You guys are set apart. A light on a hill. You are living ‘a life worthy of the calling you have received..’ by doing what you do – when you do – and where you are. We completely believe in you guys and love all of you!

  5. Thank you SO much for the updates! To you it may seem ordinary, but to those of us that have tasted just a little of what goes on in Swaziland…at those CP’s, with ALL of those children as well as the AIM staff….it’s SO NOT ORDINARY!!! It’s Extraodinary!!! What you are, are the HANDS & FEET of Christ!!!! You are doing what HE would do, if he were physically walking on this Earth! Giving of himself in every way, and loving on those kids! SOOO….thank you for what you do, how you do it, and most of all…for being obedient to Christ! Bless you Gerber family!!! Love and miss you lots!!! 😉

  6. Ordinary you are not. Through the work of the Holy Spirit and all of you with A.I.M, you are not only changing the lives of the people of Swaziland, but lives of people like me too. My life has forever been changed since my time in Swaziland. I will never, ever be the same. I have a hard time spending money on anything anymore without thinking, “Do I really need this”? I find myself constantly thinking of ways to raise awareness and additional funds for Swaziland. I feel almost consumed with this mission, and I pray that God will not let my enthusiasm die. I am constantly looking at new ways and new things to bring before the congregation to keep this vision alive.

I know I owe this all to God, because he put all of our paths in motion together, but it never would have happened without awesome people like you and Jumbo, Scott and Marcia, Julie, and everyone else that I met and have not yet met with A.I.M. God bless all of you!!

  7. I LOVE this baby-girl…this is the peace I have prayed for you since I first met you! I love you and am so proud of the wife, mother, and woman of God you are!
cant wait to see you! tell Clara to pray for June/July…God will listen to her!

  8. Love to hear/read the updates. God is in the ordinary! That is our every day lives and I agree with you we need to see Him in the ordinary. But what is ordinary to you might not be to someone else! Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday to Jumbo. Hugs and kisses to Clara.
    Love Brenda
